Housemark Ltd.

Demographic Analysis and Tagging of Social Housing Stock

Nautoguide Ltd. were approached by Housemark Ltd (a large data provider into the UK social housing sector) who required a platform for the delivery of benchmarking and socio-demographic data to their customer base using a map-centric approach. The project had aggressive timescales in order to meet a planned product launch in 2016 and required the development of a user interface that would allow those with little or no GIS experience to engage with the map.

Nautoguide created a prototype system within two weeks for initial feedback and then migrated this to a full production offering within a 3 month period. The system includes the ability to upload an entire catalogue of a housing associations stock and view the complete collection on the map. Each property is presented in the context of its attributes and socio-demographic surroundings with a large number of map layers available at the LSOA level. Properties can be benchmarked against other landlords and other areas with similar attributes, such as deprivation and urban/rural indicators.

Users can tag properties into their own custom groups and filter the map against a wide range of criteria - such as number of bedrooms, property type and rent arrears figures. Finally, users can inspect areas of the map using a unique “right click report” that pops up a series of reports that can be used to interrogate the area in question. This allows users to ascertain information such as:-

  • distance of services from location (for instance: transport, retail, leisure, service…)
  • demographics pertinent to a specific area
  • crime rates and many other local indicators

The system also includes the ability to download data in Excel or CSV format with one or many attributes tagged to the properties.

Bromley Local Authority

Street Cleansing Inspection Monitoring and Workflow

Bromley local authority were keen to improve the monitoring and management of their street cleansing contract by using mapping technology to quickly ascertain and report deficiencies. Nautoguide developed an entire suite of inspection capabilities designed to work on both mobile and back office devices. The system includes a sophisticated work route scheduling algorithm along with a series of workflows/messages to deal with failed street gradings and health and safety issues. Nautoguide integrated this system with the Bromley CMS backoffice and “Fix My Street” application in order to allow for the timely response to street issues identified by members of the public. The system includes a number of real time data dashboards designed for purposes specific to Bromley. An inspection dashboard shows the progress of street inspectors against target whilst a deficiencies table quickly highlights areas and features that require attention.

The Bromley system won an Exemplar award for the authority in 2015 for innovative use of data and technology. It underlines our ability to properly understand customer requirements and leverage our platform to ensure that they are met effectively.

National Museum of the Royal Navy

Public Data Capture and Presentation of Historical Information and Photographs

The National Museum of the Royal Navy commissioned Nautoguide to create a web based mapping portal allowing members of the public to view and interact with a map commemorating the casualties from the battle of Jutland in 1916. This project moved from inception to launch within a period of 6 weeks, supporting over 10,000 unique users in 24 hours. This map includes a host of innovative data and user interface features, such as the ability to cross link map features, drag and drop of features onto the map and ability to easily add pictures or messages to the map. The NMRN system demonstrates that we are able to deliver services in an agile manner and against timescales that other organisations may find impossible. Our ability to work as part of the NRMN team was key to this as is our effective on-going support provision to them now the service has gone live.

Maidenhead - Know Your Neighbourhood

The Problem

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, like many other authorities, provided proprietary map and property based searches on their website. The GIS team within the council saw an opportunity to build upon their programming skills and build an in-house solution, using open-source components that provided the same functionality and service to its residents.

In order to achieve this they needed a consultancy partner to help them with this transition and also provide API services for a number of areas that they did not want to operate in house.

The Solution

Windsor and Maidenhead approached Nautoguide Ltd. to help them with this transition. Nautoguide operate a cloud based geospatial platform that offers a wealth of services; from simple search API’s to full blown web applications designed to cover the entire cleansing inspection workflow.
